We knew we desired to throw an event
From Kristen Gardner Photography: “Nicole and John wanted a marriage day backdrop that highlighted the gorgeous Virginia countryside. They mixed classic and contemporary flowers and details to produce an event that was so lovely and ethereal… It was a classic joy to photograph every minute. And while the setting was gorgeous, the emotion and love they have for one of these guys is the element that shines through. This was easily among my favorite weddings of the season.”
Growing up within the DC metro area, Nicole and John were raised as huge Redskins fans. When the 2016 schedule arrived on the scene, they remarked that the Redskins were playing in October in London — which the game seemed to be only five days from Nicole's 30th birthday. They planned a European adventure — meeting track of friends in Belgium, spending a couple of days wine tasting in Italy, after which finishing up in the Skins game in London. On the last day of Nicole's 29th year, John got recorded on one knee, in the middle of the vineyard in Serralunga D'Alba, Italy, and asked Nicole to become his wife.

We knew we desired to throw an event! Our big priorities were great food, a lively band, along with a beautiful venue. Nicole was raised about an hour west of DC in “real Virginia,” within the middle of rolling hills and lush pastures. We expect our ceremony and reception would be a backdrop of green, but additionally to have somewhere central to Maryland, Virginia, and DC. Welcome to Leesburg, VA. Murray Hill (an attractive estate around the banks of the Potomac River, having a restored llama barn around the property) took our breath away. We selected seasonal colors of blush and sage to enhance the venue, and our caterer was recognized to serve up an average plate of barbeque with the right fixings. The mix of elegance and comfort was precisely what we were searching for.

The bride wore a Casablanca gown having a blush underlay, and also the groom wore a bespoke suit from D.C. Custom Clothiers. We wanted our wedding party members to possess some individuality, so everybody was given a color family and inspired to go for it! Champagne and blush for that lady, and lightweight gray for that gentleman. The flower girls' were each placed on a highly anticipated “fashion show” of 7 dresses each and picked their very own dresses! The bride wore a bracelet using the letter “J” on her new husband and opted to forgo a necklace in support of chandelier earrings.

We each loved spending our day with our families and core categories of friends; I was kept very calm and relaxed throughout my day. However, later in the evening, we couldn't stop laughing! Pictures of our wedding prove our emotions were evident on our faces. Just pure joy. We have also loved hearing the stories of things we MISSED at our wedding. We were so busy we didn't know among our friends choose to go into labor!

Even John knows what such a succulent appears like, that's just how much Nicole loves them. That was the very first vision for flowers — succulents along with a lot of greenery. An enormous head table (filled with family and good friends) seemed to be part of that vision — specifically a 50-foot garland of greenery stretching on the center from the entire table. For the additional guest tables, Nicole was built with a collection of antique milk glass bud vases to keep a single stem of the dinner plate dahlia. The copper table number along with a zinc bucket of hydrangeas, blush spray roses, and succulents composed the decor of these tables. The ladies from the evening carried bouquets of dahlias, succulents, thistles, ranunculus, Earl Grey roses, blush spray roses, and seeded eucalyptus. Each groomsman sported a succulent and ranunculus boutonniere.
Wedding cake, out. Ice cream sundae bar, in. Nicole doesn't really love cake, despite the fact that John loves every baked good on the planet. HOWEVER, Nicole and John together love frozen treats. Almost every weekend is closed out with frozen treats on a Sunday night. Even the dog gets his bowl! So we chose to serve our guest's frozen treats in lieu of the traditional wedding cake.

Nicole's grandmother died about 2 yrs before the mauve bridesmaid dresses, shortly before she met John. They were very close. Nicole designed a quilt from scraps of her Grandma's clothing, that was placed on the chair in the ceremony, to mark her spot Nicole also built a blue porcelain flower that belonged to her grandmother in her own bouquet.
John and Nicole play a. LOT. of. Scrabble. Their place cards for “bride” and “groom” were spelled out in Scrabble letters. Nicole did all of the lettering for the wedding signs (except for the table numbers).
